I have always loved swimming and the pool. I grew up going to the public pool or filling a myriad of deployable backyard pools and swimming all day long.

Recently, I went to a pool with my niece for the first time in what must be a decade and I was reminded of just how good a workout it is. I could feel every muscle in my arms and legs getting used.

Unfortunately, I feel like I’m in a weird middle ground that feels “unwelcome” at pools unless I bring my niece or wife. If I go to a children-friendly pool alone I run the risk of being perceived as a creepy man loitering near kids. If I go to an adult only pool then I imagine there will be less playing and more swimming laps, and I don’t know how much I necessarily want to swim laps.

But the article does make me want to give it a try…
