My guess is they expected the manager to tell a joke when they spoke to them and laughed out of courtesy. They thought the manager was being silly by saying Tuesday instead of Monday.
Only later to realise that it was a three day weekend and so they laughed at the manager that was just being joyful and saying goodbye 🙃
