While searching a secretive prison in the belly of the Assad regime’s legacy of torture for American journalist Austin Tice, CNN’s Clarissa Ward made a startling discovery when a rebel fighter uncovered a hidden prisoner still unaware of Assad’s ouster.
Journalist finds a prisoner under a blanket in an otherwise abandoned cell. Had apparently been there for about 3 months, being moved from prison to prison and having to endure torture.
They reassure him the regime fell and take him outside, where the shock sets in. Paramedics treat him and take him for further treatment, during which he remarks it’s the first car in a long time he was placed in to without being blindfolded.
The journalist doesn’t seem to speak the language and keeps talking English to him, which he doesn’t understand. He does clutch her arm as they go outside the prison just so he has something to hold on to.
