New Delhi [India]: The cost of producing green hydrogen in India is coming down, but the target of USD 1-2 per kg still looks far, according to a report by Emkay Securities. Currently, green hydrogen prices in India are seen at around USD 3.8 per kg, excluding GST, based on the latest bidding rounds in the refinery and fertilizer sectors. It stated “Green hydrogen prices seem to be gradually declining and the targeted rate of USD1-2/kg still seems far”.

What about the storage? If one is serious about hydrogen, a huge storage capacity would be required. Price, specially with growing solar panels like mushrooms and negative electric energy prices during sun days, isn’t that important.

It’s not (just) about the cost, but the technology and safety of storing huge amounts.

No, it most probably isn’t. And hydrogen is much more flammable.

Hydrogen is lighter than air, so any fire is brief. Gasoline is nearly as flammable but burns in place.

Hindenburg disagrees with you. But seriously, imagine a huge tank full of hydrogen catching fire. It’d be definitely brief and would leave a devastation all around. You can also imagine that small gas tanks used for home cooking…

Hindenburg wasn’t even the deadliest zeppelin disaster. But nevermind, since modern storage tanks are much safer. Thousands of people die from gasoline fires every year BTW. This figure will go down if we switched to hydrogen.
