Video platform under scrutiny over potential breach of Digital Services Act in areas such as age verification
The EU has launched a formal investigation into whether TikTok has broken online content rules including the safeguarding of children.
The European Commission said it had opened official proceedings against the Chinese-owned short video platform over potential breaches of the Digital Services Act (DSA).
It said the investigation was looking at areas including protection of minors, maintaining records of its advertising content and whether its algorithms led users down damaging content “rabbit holes”.
Lots of time on my hands since I don’t go to Reddit any more and the pace of Lemmy is so much slower. There’s good stuff on there and I don’t have a problem turning it off when I have anything else to do because I don’t have any FOMO on the platform. Sometimes I go weeks without opening it, just like FB. I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone who feels like they need to keep up with random strangers. But it kills time just as well as playing a game on my phone.
Point of my post was that it’s no worse than equivalents. If you’re going to call out TikTok for something, might as well add insta and YT shorts.
