#Meta enjoying the fights in the #Fediverse even before #Project92 becomes reality.
Admins killing their reputations and users killing their admins back. @fediverse
@fediverse Updated meme, this one is more accurate
What’s the story? Not seeing it on my feeds
The XMPP comment is spot on, I remember pidgin which was an app that cross communicated with other IM applications.
Weird it’s not a thing anymore, I only ever see XMPP on siloed apps these days as their IM function
@Senseibu WhatsApp came along and fucked everything up. But WhatsApp never wanted to federate.
Time for round 2
@retiolus @fediverse you’re overstating the importance of the few loud and annoying cretins that think being clueless makes their opinions especially valuable. All I can see here is people belittling the work of those driving the fediverse and making up arbitrary and brainless rules on the spot that have been known as toxic, ridiculous and untenable in FOSS for decades…
@JustusWingert @fediverse As an admin I will always take part of the admins. Except in cases where the server belongs to a non-profit organisation or similar. Users often forget that they’re on someone’s private property, just like on Reddit, Instagram or Twitter. Except that here it’s FOSS software, so if they don’t like it, they can become the owner of their own data and choices by setting up their server. Correct me if I’m wrong.
@retiolus @fediverse no correction necessary. You buy it, you make the rules. Quite a simple concept that many a Karen doesn’t seem to understand.
@JustusWingert @fediverse By doing this meme I didn’t think to attack either of them (admins or users). The debate is important, yes, but I think the situation is becoming ridiculous.
@retiolus @fediverse I simply wanted to point out the relative importance. No, Meta does not enjoy this. They don’t give a crap. They don’t know of the possible existence of this conversation. The repercussions of this conversation are also quite irrelevant. Like… How about let’s all go out and touch some grass, right?
