Jeez. I remember watching this. Hanks was cheeeeeeeeezy. Satanic panic crappola.
I watched this during a date with my now husband. Sure is something! Mostly boring, because a lot of story sure didn’t stay in my head other than “they based going into the steam tunnels on something that sort of happened” and “ah yes the twin towers. This has aged well”
Well if you are gonna recommend that I will need to recommend the actual best satanic panic film:
YES! Dark Dungeons is a win in so many ways. It’s on YouTube btw: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNYxu1LqkyT3Ihj7l2n2WSH0KlqOJaEio
It’s kind of one of my favorite movies. I truly never know if it was satire.
It’s definitely ironic… the RPGers being the most popular kids on the campus, the way they interrupt the dance party to start gaming, the way the professor says “Marcie, you got to lay off the RPGs”, etc. But it’s masterful how they play it straight, and because their humor is dry they can turn “serious” easily, making the last scene so chilling: some people really believe this, and here is what they do. Now which one’s really the cult?
Mazes and Monsters is available on youtube:

Beware the sacrilege!
I’ve only heard about this from the book Masters of Doom by David Kushner (they also wrote a book about Gary Gygax). Is it about the story of a D&D campaign or about a murder that involved people who played D&D?
It’s about what the satanic panic thinks d&d players get up to. Bloody awful, would recommend!
Needs a 4K release.
