Is there a reason that grown men, mostly Republican, have a weird hatred of barbie? It is honestly is very pathetic.

It’s hilarious seeing grown men freaking out about Barbies like they’re 6yr olds that were just told they can only play with “action figures.”

If they’d go see the movie with an open mind they might get a fresh perspective and maybe even laugh a few times. I feel like little girls and these guys are who actually needs to watch it.

Anyone who has to proclaim anything that loudly and consistently isn’t actually proclaiming that thing, and there’s probably something else going on in their heads.

This works for “alpha male” bullshit, as well as super over-the-top patriotism, and… well, as far as I’m concerned, organized religion in general.

And those even weaker men (often with poor hygiene/grooming and political views at one of the four extreme corners of the political compass, all white or chinese and who never socially matured past high school), who claim to be “nice guys” and then blame feminism, stronger men, women as a group altogether, men of other races, western culture and everything but themselves for their inability to get laid. They are so “nice” in fact, they are prone to leaving long, rude text messaging essays whenever a “female” refuses their clumsy attempts at seduction.

Misogyny. Barbie is about feminism. Feminism is about women having power and not being objects for men to control. Men hate this. Republicans support this oppression entirely.

Yea, Barbie used to have the message that women had to be a certain way, let’s not forget then”math is hard” Barbie. We didn’t let my daughter play with Barbies because the message used to be basically the same as the Kardashians (Be rich, Beautiful, and get a man). Weird how the movie basically changed the whole paradigm.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the message of the movie. It’s great, but Barbies past was never about female empowerment

They’re secretly gay and are afraid that seeing feminine concepts and objects will make them slip up and do something fabulous, so they put their emotions in a box and CRUSH IT

To be fair, it’s only a very particular subset of grown men. For instance, I am a grown man, and I have no problem with Barbie stuff. In fact, I’m gonna go see the movie next week because I’ve heard it’s incredibly good. Weird reactions to stuff like this seems to always come from men who are members of hyperconservative and often theologically-oriented groups.

Yeah a lot of straight people tell me that all anti gay stuff comes from gays, I suspect these folk are also racist because they’re secretly black Mexican and the misogyny is because they’re actually women, they hate college professors because they secretly teach at Harvard and I guess they teach modern art because they hate that too normally…

Or maybe theyre just small minded fucks that hate anything that isn’t them because they’re insecure and weak minded

Aside from the typical misogyny this movie in particular makes some pointed criticisms of masculinity. They either don’t see that reactions like this makes their masculinity look very insecure, or they are aware that hatred sells to their audience better than fair level-headed reactions.

Basically, they’re angry because they’re turned on.

This is similar to Hasidic Jews or ultra conservative Muslim men freaking out at western women and blaming women for being unable to control themselves.

They also can’t stand to see women who are … you know… successful at anything other than being a housewife.

I’m convinced this is one of the reasons I love the color pink. I remember as a kid, my grandpa and occasionally my dad getting so insecure about the prospect of wearing/one of their boys wearing pink. Even at that age, I thought it was absurd that a man would be scared of a color. Ironically, that makes pink the most badass, punk-rock color, in my head.

Far too many grown-ass men care far too much about movies made for little girls.

And I’m not just talking about Barbie. Look at all the dudes frothing at the mouth over the live action The Little Mermaid and Snow White, and before that over the Netflix She-Ra.

Hey, I’m pissed at the Little Mermaid and Snow White, but that’s because I’m pissed at ALL the live action remakes. They’re unnecessary garbage, every last one of them. If they want new generations to enjoy the stories, restore/upgrade/remaster/etc. the originals and stop “vaulting” them.

And I don’t know anything about She-Ra. If it’s anything like the He-Man reboot, fuck yes, go for it.

Considering Barbie was PG-13 it is very much not a movie “made for little kids”, which is the argument these people use to complain about it.

He was probably thinking of the bit where Jesus fashions an improvised weapon and attacks a heavily guarded economic centre because he didn’t agree with their politics.

Or the bit where he said he’s going to beat the fuck out of anyone that doesn’t follow him in exactly the right way, and keep torturing them while they beg to be allowed to die because the plagues and fire hurt too much.

He was using the same book that people have been interpreting to mean violence is a moral imperative for almost two thousand years, I know it’s fun to say he doesn’t follow Jesus but biblical Jesus was nuts if you go by the whole book and Christianity is a bloody and oppressive religion
