The first one is hilarious because you’ve been able to change your gender at will in the Souls games since the very first Dark Souls. DS1 you use a ring. DS2 you use a coffin. DS3 and everything after you just use the respec system and alter appearance.

Though it is weird hearing the dialogue use pronouns for every character but yours. You’re still trying to be the Lord of Cinder or the Elden Lord even if you’re a lady, but they will say Lady Rennala. Go figure. 🤷🏻♂️
In a lot of systems, Lady is an honorific inherited or gained by marriage, but Lord (or equivalent) indicates the person is the main titleholder.
You’ll also see some fiction avoid the title “Empress” for the same reason.

I recently got Lunacid, a RPG that takes inspiration from Kings Field and Shadow Tower lineage made by a solo dev. It’s a great game I suggest you pick it up btw.
It has pronouns selector in character creation with some zhe/zher stuff. It has no affect on any in game dialog or stats. The dev put it in just to get people like this upset. I didn’t realize this until I looked in the steam community discussions and saw the amount of genuine seething with the devs themselves taunting in the comments.
The amount of people who genuinely get hot and bothered by this was surprising to me. I’m not really a gender identy orientated person so its not something I feel strongly about however I respect its important for some and just moved on with the game. Good on the artist for the power move making the bigots and squares salty at the cost of some sales.

God imagine if FromSoftware started doing social commentary on the crumbling state of our hierarchical institutions, with a focus on how those who try to suppress the natural order of the world are responsible for all the problems.

Yes, that’s how English works, everyone has pronouns unless you want to use their name every time they’re referred to.
I have a friend who didn’t use pronouns when talking to or about others for a while. Turns out they were struggling with their own gender identity and they started using pronouns again once they figured themselves out.
This was a heartwarming and satisfying story arc.
