Title. myself and my colleague did notice that chatGPT (GPT4) started to answer very poorly in the recent month or so. For example, it was quite efficient at drawing mermaid charts, but not anymore. It fails to do a simple drawing.

Also I’ve seen quote a lot of posts regarding GPT4 quality downgrade on r/ChatGPT subreddit.

so I guess it’s confirmed that OpenAI has downgraded quality of ChatGPT. Whatever that reason is - I stopped paying for ChatGPT and simply use GPT4 API with some ChatGPT interface for simple questions. It’s going to be even cheaper for me.

EDIT: if you are interested in what I am using - project called BetterChatGPT.

It’s definitely gotten worse for coding. ChatGPT 3.5 used to be decent, and I’d use 4 on occasion for more complex tasks. Lately I’ve had to use 4 for everything and 3.5 is next to useless.

For the moment it’s still worth the 20 bucks for me, but if it gets any worse I’ll be cancelling the subscription and switching to something else.

Yup. I used to see a fair bit of difference between 3.5 and 4. Now, it’s not a big enough difference to be worth $20/month. I just canceled mine yesterday. There are so many AI tools now that there’s no point paying when I’m not using it professionally.

Or you can just pay-per-use like I do. i’ve calculated it should cost me around 3-5eur compared to 22€/month of ChatGPT subscription. I also find GPT4 API somewhat “smarter”.

It didn’t become dumber. That’s impossible because it would require sentience. The programmers are fucking it up by making it so consumer friendly. The program is SEVERELY limited in it’s responses and not to be offensive, racist, triggering, ptsd inducing… and a whole host of this generation’s stupid as fuck buzzwords.

The simplest task is me asking it ONLY to CORRECT THE GRAMMAR. That’s how I wrote it, in full caps, and I even repeated the word only. What does it do? Sanitise the fuck out of whatever I write, use vocabulary I would only use when writing my thesis, and I only ask for fucking grammar corrections. Early GPT4 Would never make that mistake. Now I’ve to waste 3 to 4 messages out of the 25 they give us just to correct a mistake it intentionally makes. If that’s not “dumbber” then what is?

This here is one of those where I really agree with one part and really disagree with another. I agree that it is so censored that its responses have become much more limited. I disagree with responses where people take it literally when people post about ChatGPT being dumber, afraid to say things, etc. The responses it gives are dumber. They’ve been dumbed down. No one thinks it’s alive. When someone posts that ChatGPT is “X”, assume they mean it was programmed to be “X”. This was probably unnecessary of me to post but pedantry irks the fuck out of me. Don’t mind me and have a good day.
