Your local Social Security office will be closing. Musk has instructed the General Services Administration to terminate all federal office leases, including every Social Security office and every post office.

What is going on should be obvious. Musk wants to cut off your benefits and then have Congress use the savings to give himself a gigantic tax cut. But Social Security is incredibly popular, so he can’t be open about his intentions. Instead, he is trying to convince Americans that our Social Security system is overrun with massive fraud. The truth is the opposite.

Less than 1 percent of Social Security payments are improper. And remember, that already-low percentage includes all the beneficiaries who receive a proper benefit but then die in the same month.

Ironically, the best way to stop improper payments — including those vanishingly few that result from fraud — is to adequately staff the Social Security Administration.

Hey, maybe if he fucks over the Boomers they’ll realize what’s going on and vote Dem next time around?

…nah, they’ll just blame it on DEI.

Why is the government post so important? I have 3 different delivery companies that visit my house more often than usps and for lower retail cost too.

Are there large areas that private shipping companies refuse to service? It seems like a wasteful service if there is such little demand. Genuine question, I’m not trying to be an ass

USPS doesn’t use federal funds to operate. Not sure where OP got post office from.

Been pointed out that that take is from the article itself.

You think they’re going to let that fact get in the way of dismantling anything they want gone?

Facts don’t matter to them. Legal limitations don’t matter to them. The only enforcement system we have remaining here is Congress impeaching and removing from office, and doing that essentially for the entire cabinet going down the line.

That’s not OP, that’s in the article.

I don’t know how it works but lease payments might go through that system, even if it’s paid for from postage.

    “Instructed”…

Funny word to use for a jackass elected to no position, elected to no power, assigned no power/position by Congress…

    Oh wait, yeah…

He bought himself the US govt just like he bought himself a social media bullhorn.

Solidifying his position as “most dangerous person to democracy”.

Although this is terrible, but maybe this would make people realize who has their best interest at heart

Narrator: but in fact they did not realize

Someone should come for Musk and the rest of the republican party.

I can only hope some of the absolute fools who voted for republicans realize that their policies are dogshit, but I think too many of them are emotionally invested in their “team”. They’d cheer for their side even as they starved to death.
