I did NOT think of how this would effect hitboxes and fight sticks when I first saw this news.

“Microsoft and other licensed Xbox hardware partners’ accessories are designed and manufactured with quality standards for performance, security, and safety,” said Microsoft in a statement via Windows Central. “Unauthorized accessories can compromise the gaming experience on Xbox consoles (Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.) Players may receive a pop-up warning that their accessory is unauthorized. Eventually, the unauthorized accessory will be blocked from use to preserve the console gaming experience.”

    lmao

And the saddest part of all of this is the shittiest turtle beach, madcatz or powerA crap controllers are going to be certified and the people with disability focused or repaired devices are going to be the ones getting the brunt of the issues.

      manufactured with quality standards

the standard being “breaks within 10 hours”

Jokes on me I bought an elite xbox controller thinking maybe the quality would be better than my normal one which got stick drift. the shoulder button on the elite broke almost immediately. I thought “maybe I just got a bad one” and replaced it using the warranty, the same exact thing happened again. I used the warranty again, and surprise it happened again. I decided to just buy better replacement shoulder buttons on amazon and fix it myself which solved the problem but then I got the same stick drift I was originally trying to solve.

      never again

Why would XBOX/Microsoft do this? There’s no way the tiny amount of sales in first-party peripherals this would nudge would rival how many people are going to switch consoles or buy games on another console – or give up entirely. Only reason I could see would be hacking vulnerabilities and they were worried people could softmod/homebrew their XBOXs with a peripheral somehow.

My friend thinks the amount of people who will have to switch from third party controllers to official ones will in fact make more of a difference than people switching to PC or Playstation but idk either.

Controllers and stuff are so expensive. They’re like 1/4 the price of a console now, especially anything niche-ish like fight sticks and steering wheels. I would Seriously consider switching if I had an XBOX-whatever and this happened. They’re so stupid. I would be pissed if Sony did this because I use a Brooks converter on that GT5 Logitech steering wheel so it works on PS4.

People buying into a walled garden: wow this place is really nice.

People when the walled garden begins closing in on them: Wow this sucks!
