i fell for some ai bullshit too… was trying to get help with Sandboxie running really slowly on startup. It walked me through a billion different things and by the time it suggested that I just uninstall Sandboxie and reinstall it I was too bamboozled to even bother checking whether that was a good idea or not. I just asked it if everything would still be there if I did that, it said of course it would, and then I did it. That wiped out 1TB of games I had, poof, gone. Then I told it what happened and it told me to turn my computer off and run my hard drive to the nearest drive recovery specialist. Nope, just a hard lesson learned. Even if you start out checking every little thing it tells you, eventually after it runs you in so many circles your defenses will wear down and it will fuck you.
if only people could be so honest about their shittiness

the US is going to unleash horrors beyond the imagination of humankind on itself as well as the rest of the world

Absolutely. When I was there last summer there was 1 guy at that crazy intersection in Shibuya holding up a Free Palestine sign and shouting at all the people, all by himself. I went over and shook his hand but for the most part people just ignored him. So hundreds of people is better than 1 for sure.

I’m not trying to belittle it. What I say isn’t changing anything. I’m just pointing out in a city that size it is a miniscule turn-out but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a good start.

in a city that size, hundreds means basically nobody

that seemed pretty obvious at first thought to me when I first heard about it but a neighbor of mine was talking about it a couple months ago because she knows a guy who has a startup that is planning to do just that and was telling me how amazing it is going to be. I hadn’t thought much more about it to be honest but I just don’t see how you can maintain anything within them, which I’m sure they account for. But powering them with nuclear reactors or whatever they were talking about just sounds expensive as hell.
But even dropping the shipping containers full of hardware into the ocean turned out to be a bad idea for much the same reason and those were easier to do any sort of maintenance on even though it wasn’t really feasible.
This is a good article though. There are far more issues than I guessed.

maybe Japan trying to save face?

tickles me to death what just happened with the release of flux 2 and z-image turbo.
flux2 is a gigantic over-bloated slow mehburger, but was the first new release of a somewhat usable image model in a good while, except of course it was the distilled version that they hoped would be just good enough to get people to pay for their “pro” api.
then 1 day later alibaba releases z-image-turbo which does WAY better images and takes about 25% of the resources and time to operate causing everyone to immediately forget and abandon flux 2. not to mention they said they’ll be releasing the full non-distilled model in the next week or so, so it will be drive flux 2’s grave even deeper.
american companies have no chance in this area at all. yet they’re still pretending that spending millions on bloated, censored, and gatekept models is the path forward

Universal Paperclip is the only one I’ve ever been enthralled with. It was such an awesome surprise.

programming can’t totally erase inbuilt humanity it would seem

it never began as an anti-narcotics operation though. it was an attempt to goad Maduro into retaliating. It also served to intimidate Maduro and make him look weak.

like press, any prize is good prize!

my partner was upset with me for telling her I dumped half my nvidia stock a couple weeks back, causing her to do the same, only to find out nvidia’s stock went higher this week.
but this news made her feel a little better.
this is why i don’t tell people what i do with stocks though. somehow i’m still responsible for what they do based on what i’m doing.

yay i’m part of history! i was also laid off in October along with 40% of my company peers!

many people have been… happened in my last company… huge layoff of all the developers who didn’t use AI like they were told to
finally! i’ve been waiting for this for some time now
