I use it for IRL contacts mostly
There are directories for groups, here is the official one (others contain lots of porn)

What kind of group were you thinking of?

Also add bypass paywalls clean 👍
Yes, fennec is nowhere near as hardened/privacy/security focused
Hell yeah. We’ve been using it as our main comms for almost a year and love it
Simplex chat is a hardened fork that does not require any phone number and can be completely self hosted
You can quickly spin up new identities to give out, I get the network effect with signal is big but simplex is perfect for our use case so I felt like mentioning it
Ironfox is the hardened FF/mobile librewolf
Orion browser on IOS is compatible with firefox AND chrome extensions
If you’re trying to not be tracked you need to protect your IP. There’s a lot more but that’s the basic first step
Futo with amoled dark purple theme is actually slick as hell imo
Yt-dlp
Tor’s primary purpose is to access clearnet sites, hidden services are secondary.
To use Lemmy anonymously register and log in only over tor. Using it only sometimes defeats the purpose
You can use onionmail.org for verification
Feel free to ask if you have questions about Tor/anonymity
Orion browser IOS has firefox and chrome extension support (doesn’t work for everything but most do)
Tor browser
And Mullvad browser
That mostly depends on your IP reputation, don’t think the browser itself is going to affect it much
I’ve switched from librewolf to mullvad browser, it is tor browser minus the tor network.
In other words it makes all its users have the same fingerprint so that they can blend together. This is much more effective at detetring tracking than simply hiding or randomizing details like librewolf does.
In this thread the arkenfox Dev goes as far to say “PS: long term I am hoping we can retire arkenfox (I can’t speak for LW) and just use MB - but they’re just a little too divergent for now”
https://github.com/mullvad/mullvad-browser/issues/1
Other options (besides tor browser) are librewolf or Arkenfox, no other firefox forks are reputable from a security/privacy perspective
2nd place is duck.AI in via tor browser
“Take potentially dangerous PDFs, office documents, or images and convert them to safe PDFs.”
Don’t think any groups like that exist, simplex is mostly known by cybersecurity/opsec nerds. We would have to be the change we want to see.
Almost all 50501 people use discord and reddit, with a small subset on signal. There’s a growing awareness to use better platforms however so I’m spreading the word.
