It’s political censorship dressed up as protecting children, as usual. The Trump fascists have been deleting all kinds of information from government websites, and internet archives allow people to see what has been censored, including facts about climate change, Black history and economic trends.

Web archives preserve information the US Government has deleted, like reports on the economy, climate change, and Black history. In general they work against censorship of the internet. This is just another case of using “protecting the children” as a cudgel to kill politically inconvenient sources of information.

They will ban VPNs for everyone except corporations who can pay a bribe fee for an encryption license. It will only be the little people who will not be allowed to encrypt their communications. I run DNS blocklists on my network and see no ads on this page. I’d recommend it. For a while I used Pi-hole and now I use Unbound blocklists in OPNsense.

Technically you could load an ICE warning app from another source for now. But not for long because Google is about to require that all Android developers register with (and pay) Google and get Google’s approval, even if they distribute their apps entirely through non-Google channels. I fully expect that developers of left-wing activist apps will mysteriously fail to be approved by Google.

I had to set up Windows 11 on a new work computer yesterday and this was exactly the purpose of Edge. It’s incredible how hard you have to fight during the setup process not to be railroaded into accepting settings that work against you and for Microsoft. By the time I was done I felt sick and angry and there was no way I’d use Microsoft’s browser after all that. And then it turned out I wasn’t done, because it had defaulted to putting all my documents and pictures in Microsoft’s cloud even though I hadn’t asked it to, so as soon as I migrated my documents I got a warning that my cloud storage was full and I should pay them more money. So I had to undo all that, but Microsoft already got to see all my documents. Infuriating from start to finish. I am very glad to use Linux on my own machines. Windows feels like a hostile environment with traps around every corner.

Sorry for the rant. I have to go back to that machine today and I guess I’m still angry.
