Technology@lemmy.world•Marco Rubio bans Calibri font at State Department for being too DEIEnglish
11·3 days agoSurely if you want to kill disabled people, it’s a good idea to start by making them feel shunned and their lives extremely difficult first, no?
That way, a lot of them die off, lose their power and voice in society, and are way easier to purge when the time comes!
You can’t build a Christiofascist Oligarchy without obliterating a few societal eggs, after all!

5·12 days agoDawg we’re not even 3 days into the Advent season yet, my turkey is still frozen outside waiting 😂
It’s November.
Not even the beginning of Advent yet, let alone anywhere near time to put up decorations 😂

Reddit@lemmy.world•/r/Tennessee doesn't want people posting about the Tuesday election
15·15 days agoSo weird to imagine having political adverts on television.
We have them here for big elections, kinda, but they’re special government mandated broadcasts that each party have access to in order to get their message out for free to ensure equal representation, otherwise you could have a situation where the party with the most money to burn could sway the election results in their favour with a bigger ad campaign.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that a Superstorm far worse than Hurricane Sandy could hit New York City. Several neighborhoods could be flooded.
232·15 days agoI should know this? Probably not, given that it’s something that local government should be informing people that live in that city in flood areas, vs me who lives thousands of miles away.
Rather than informing the entire planet Earth of flood preparation info that is for a very small corner of the world, maybe a better use of time would be writing to your local flood management representative to ask them to improve public messaging and preparedness.
That’s not why they’re doing it, they want to tightly control and track what everyone does, limit their freedoms and so on. But yeah.
Stupidly large murika style cars are gonna be a no from me dawg

While this is just a test so I don’t know if it’d be the same, actual nuclear ICBMs have absolutely no remote cancel or detonation options at all.
Introducing them would introduce the possibility of your enemy hacking them and detonating them to protect themselves, so they’re completely out of human control once launched.
This is how the world heals ❤️

7·18 days agoWhat a ridiculous way to live. Imagine not having a pavement along a road people might need to travel along.
Like sure, here there’s no pavements along roads once you get outside of towns and cities to the big connecting roads, the kind nobody would want to walk down anyway, motorways, dual carriageways, and of course small country roads and the like.
But if you physically can’t get from A to B in a town without walking along an unsafe verge? The fuck is your local government doing and why haven’t they been sacked yet?
To be fair, I also live somewhere that Americans hate from what I’ve heard, the dreaded evil 15 minute neighbourhood. Everything I need, more or less, is within a short walk. That’s just how things are built in the UK, my whole area was built in the post-war 50s construction boom, so it’s hardly new.
Within 15 minutes I can walk to a newsagents, off licence, flower shop, takeaway, opticians, doctors surgery, dentists, schools, butchers, bakery, supermarkets, bicycle repair shop, barbershops and salons, cafes, etc etc. Often there’s more than one of a thing available.
There’s much more within easy reach, because there are many buses and rail trams running in various directions to get to different places in the city and in the towns surrounding the city, all stops within a 15 minute walk of my house. They run frequently and are very affordable to use.
Anyway, yeah, while I don’t expect everywhere to put such a big focus on ensuring pedestrians can live their lives without cars, I expect them to at least have PATHS, for fecks sake.
…how do their children walk to school if there’s no bloody paths? Come on. Local government should be run out of office for endangering the kids like that, nevermind everyone else. I mean… how do wheelchair users etc get around? Christ.
60? 20? Are those numbers? Counting is woman’s work, never learnered it!
