When I pay my healthcare premiums or my taxes, individuals who are obese are taking more of that money and raising prices overall (everything else equal, not getting into universal healthcare vs not). That is a trade off of me being okay with the notion that people should be covered, but having to pay more for those people.

They all have a system for keeping track of that, I know iCloud automatically assigns a URL to each based on where you created it, or Fastmail (which I use) has a comment field and automatically tags each email as it comes to your inbox.

It takes more than zero effort to create it, so it’s too much effort for my wife, but I absolutely love it.

There’s really nothing to be done about the compromised email address, but I would really recommend using a service that creates unique email addresses per service that you sign up for to mitigate the blast radius when one service gets pwned. It takes a long while, but thankfully privacy laws are stronger now and it’s easier to force a company to either delete your information or change the email they have for you.

Edit: looks like we were both right! I was reading through your link and it seems the work reported by the NIST led to the exact definitions for Avogadro’s number and the Planck constant.

I think this would likely be most troublesome on some of the OG internet users that got a whole freaking /8, /10, or /12 or something like AT&T or universities. Up until very recently, and possibly even to the present, these organizations had such large IPv4 space, that there was no need to do NAT, and each device had a publicly addressable IP.

Since 2019, the kg is just defined in terms of the Plank constant and some math with the resonant frequency of cesium as well as the speed of light. There was too much variability in anything physical so they decided to just fix some constants at whatever value they were close to.

I mean too much Helium isn’t a problem. It’s one of the few (only?) elements that will just disappear if you don’t do anything with it.

It’s light enough that it rises to the very tip top of the earth’s atmosphere and is then stripped away by solar radiation. That’s why is a depleting natural resource, not because it’s burned or used or anything, but because it just escapes.
