29·2 years agoSimply excluding this backdoor does not seem to be sufficient. The malicious actor has contributed over 750 commits to xz, all of which could contain further backdoors.
Downgrading to the last version without any contributions from the malicious actor is not possible either, because of new functionalities and other security issues that were fixed in the meantime. Uninstalling xz is also not possible, because half my system depends on it.
I guess it will take some time to sort all of that out. I am very impressed by the fast and coordinated response to this incident by the FOSS community.

17·2 years agoFür 150 M€ könnte man auch einen Radweg von Berlin nach Hamburg bauen. Wäre glaube ich sinnvoller. Aber was weiß ich schon.

Fremdsprachige Bücher kaufe ich meistens, wenn es bei Thalia mal wieder ~16–20% Rabatt auf fremdsprachige Bücher gibt. Vergleichbare Preise (inklusive Rabatt) habe ich leider anderweitig noch nicht gefunden.
Ein Verkaufs-/Vertriebsverbot könnte ich irgendwie noch nachvollziehen, aber dass VW einfach so rechtmäßig erworbenes fremdes Eigentum konfiszieren und vernichten darf, entspricht nicht meinem Rechtsverständnis.
Wen soll das denn triggern? Da stimmen doch alle zu.
Auch ich nutze Bogen, bei dem Weg.

24·2 years agoI am using Librera Reader. Make sure to install the F-Droid version (Librera FD) without Google Play services.
It is primarily an ebook reader that supports a variety of formats, but it is also an excellent PDF viewer. Significantly more feature-rich than any other FOSS PDF viewer for Android that I have found.
Das Gesetz entscheidet nicht über Sprache. Sojamilch steht im Duden, dürfte ich aber nicht verkaufen.
Ich finde die Verwendung von LLMs in der Kommunikation aus folgenden Gründen potentiell problematisch:
- Für einen selbst geschriebenen langen Text muss man eigene Zeit und Energie investieren und hat daher ein Interesse daran, sich prägnant zu artikulieren. Ich brauche eine Größenordnung mehr Zeit, einen Text zu verfassen, als die Person, die diesen dann später lesen wird. Mit LLM-generierten Text dreht sich das ganze um. Ich kann viel schneller Text erzeugen lassen, als ihn überhaupt jemand lesen kann.
- LLMs schreiben gerne mal Blödsinn. Menschen auch, aber das fällt dann normalerweise recht schnell im Schreibstil auf. Wenn ich einen LLM-generierten Text erhalte, den niemand vorher korrekturgelesen hat, kann es sehr lange dauern, bis mir auffällt, dass der Text nur Blödsinn erhält.
- LLMs erzeugen gerne unnötig aufgeblähte Texte mit Füllsätzen, Wiederholungen und insgesamt recht niedriger Informationsdichte. Damit drehen LLMs den Arbeitsaufwand in der Kommunikation um, und das finde ich sehr problematisch.
LLMs eignen sich super als persönliche Assistenten, und können eine tolle Unterstützung beim Schreiben darstellen, wenn man sie richtig und verantwortungsbewusst einsetzt. Man hat meine Zeit aber bereits mit ChatGPT-generierten Blödsinns-E-mails verschwendet, das fand ich nicht so super. Spam on Steroids.

Dann werden auch Fälle abgedeckt, in denen die Tierprodukte nicht mehr im Endprodukt enthalten sind (z.B. Klärung mit Gelatine)
I think you are reading too much into this. SpaceX has a rather aggressive test program, and the purpose of the tests is not (only) to verify the functionality of the system, but also to learn about the vehicle and involved technologies. At this stage they are pushing the boundaries of the systems capabilities intentionally up to the point where it might start to fail. So if things don’t fail, it only means that they could have pushed harder and squeezed out more performance.
That does not mean that anyone wants Starship to explode. But the objective is clearly not to do a perfect launch, because SpaceX knows that it’s more efficient to make mistakes a few times times and then succeed, instead of spending excessive amounts of time and money one single perfect test launch. This has been communicated very clearly from the very beginning.

I assume JAXA ordered a fixed number of HTVs, those were built and then the construction line was closed down, probably before 2018. Just ordering another one was probably not possible.
