It did start out slightly slow before becoming awesome, but yes you should avoid it. Although it was awesome, they cancelled it at a pretty gigantic cliffhanger in both the main plot and (surprisingly compelling) romance plot. I got to the last episode knowing it was cancelled and was so upset I wished I hadn’t watched it.

Edit since I see now there may be some ambiguity - my comment here is specifically regarding Outcasts, not Firefly. I don’t think (or didn’t see) the Firefly reference was there before their edit.

Controversial take: most of the themes and at least half the characters aged like milk. It was sold to me as “imagine we lost the American revolution” and I even believed that when I saw it in college, but really it’s confederados after the civil war.

Jesse in particular is gross at best, wildly harassing and inappropriate at worst. It also gets tiresome watching Mal yell “WHORE” at Inara by the 30th time.

Yeah, keep it in the rose tinted memory bank folks. Don’t ruin it for yourself.

Well, thanks for the input! This makes my decision to move on much easier.

It’s a shame, I really want to recommend it and it has some high watermark moments. But it’s a rough watch in 2024.

Just to be clear, in the comment you replied to here, my description was regarding Outcasts, not Firefly. I’m slightly worried we got our wires crossed there. 🙂 I think the other guy who replied to tell you it didn’t age well is talking about Firefly not Outcasts.
