      It seems that the mechanical keyboard alone is a large part of the cost.

      I do agree this is a very niche product.

        $314 if you want a model with a fully assembled keyboard or $269 for a version without keycaps and key switches

        with just the $45 difference, I doubt it’s about the keyboard.

          Us mechanical keyboard enthusiasts have brainwashed ourselves into thinking $45 keyboards are normal.

          That’s true. But it adds up.

          And it is a small batch project, even outside of IT, small batch is always pricey.
