Southeast US. Finally got this fella at our patio. I’ve seen him hanging out at the edge of the woods where the other suet block is, but he finally got brave enough for us to see him up close! What a pretty guy.

Lest we forget the actual red-headed woodpecker. But I agree, I want to call this guy the red-headed woodpecker so bad. Only other WPs I see around here are Downys.
Red-headed for full-red-head. Red… I don’t know… capped for the one on the photo. Still distinguishable but also logical. I’m sure it is possible to find even better name if someone would actually care.
Their bellies have such a tiny red spot and it’s so hard to see, I’ve always been puzzled about this bird being named as such.
