Do you have a source that the only evidence was them saying they wanted an abortion? This is protected speech in the US as far as I know so getting a conviction would be nearly impossible.
You are probably confusing a recent case where two co-conspirators were involved in inducing an illegal abortion, and they committed (and admitted to) other crimes adjacent to that. They had far more evidence than just “someone said they wanted an abortion”.
Now if you were logically consistent you would also oppose the criminalization of homicide, because it too can be prosecuted on weak evidence.
In fact you would have to accept many other absurd consequences, but you don’t because this is just a logical error that you carve out to justify an opinion you fancy.
