Yeah every time these water use restrictions are announced they never apply to businesses. Residential use is almost always a fraction of the water usage.
And then you look at the drought areas with consistent water use restrictions being needed every year, and the agriculture in the area is growing extremely high water usage crops like alfalfa and almonds.
A single almond takes 3.2 gallons of water to grow to harvest. A pound of almonds takes about 377 gallons of water. That’s not a crop that should be allowed and encouraged in drought prone regions.
Of all water usage, residential is ~2/3rds and commercial is 1/3rd. It’s probably the same in Austin. Go research it.

Haven’t they been giving water to rice farmers? According to wikipedia “It is estimated that it takes about 2,500 litres (660 US gal) of water need to be supplied to account for all of these outflows and produce 1 kilogram (2 lb 3 oz) of rice.” Right up there with almonds. This might have all been fine when the population of Austin was 200,000.
