Came over from Reddit, and now I am trying to get the hang of things here. It feels like the ‘automated archive’ posts make up about 50% of my Lemmy feed. Why and how are they here?

I don’t like them - I don’t think they add to the community, so I block the bots posting them.

There’s an option in your users settings to hide bot posts. From what I remember from my biggest instance all feed It also didn’t seem to be too many different bots, just muting the Lemmit bot took care of most of it.

Just wanted to tell you something funny: When I signed up a while ago I elected to hide bot posts. I didn’t remember until I read your comment and I was lost when I saw this post because I was like, “What automated archive posts?” and “What is this person asking about, I don’t see this stuff.” LOL I might be senile already!

This is not true. For a community and all the posts on it to be pulled in to your instance, at least one user on your instance needs to subscribe to it. If nobody subscribes, no posts are synchronized to your instance.
