It’s barely April so I’m interpreting your post as favorite that I’ve seen so far this year and the answer is unequivocally When Evil Lurks. If you have not seen this Argentine Horror, you are missing out on an absolute master work. Go watch it.

Runner up is a complete 180 in Thanksgiving. Not usually an Eli Roth fan but it’s just pure unadulterated campy goodness that perfectly toes the line between taking itself seriously but not too seriously.

My friend When Evil Lucks is one, if not the favorite horror movie I’ve seen in a very long time. It is amazing.

Thanksgiving was fun for sure, I think it was really great. I think Eli Roth’s movies are very childish. They are kind of caricatures of the real world, made by a man child lol. While I like the premise of Hostel 1 and 2, they represent a really stupid way of looking at the world. So Thanksgiving was a lot of fun, and I would say it’s Eli Roth’s best film.

Also you are totally right in that it’s a bit early to ask the question, but I totally agree with you, come with whatever you’ve seen including movies before 2024 :)

When Evil Lurks is so fucking good. Quite possibly the best horror movie of the past decade, IMO.

Exhuma was a fantastic Korean movie. Reminded me of a Junji Ito manga in terms of motifs and imagery at certain points. There are a lot of cool Shinto religion details if you like that kind of thing. It follows a team of traditional exorcists/ghostbusters who are trying to dispell a curse for a rich family. Plays out like a heist movie.

Some of the friends I saw it with were more lukewarm on it but I loved it.

There’s not much competition but I really enjoyed Out of Darkness. A movie about the >!Neanderthal/ Cro-Magnon War!< is something I never thought I’d get - right up until the final 30 minutes of it.

I have to admit I’ve not seen that many horror movies this year. I have taken a bit of a break from it all. I still see it once in awhile If I find one that looks good.

I’m not sure '24 really has many options yet, kind of early in the year no? For me Stop Motion is probably best I’ve seen so far this year but it’s really not great I’m hesitant to even mention it.

Edit: if we’re talking films viewed this year, I recently watched Evil Dead Rise and I quite enjoyed that.

Ooooh in that case “No One Will Save You” on Hulu was dope. It was like 5 minutes before the movie was like, “hey uh, btw, we going hard in approximately five seconds”.
