Bathroom renovation revealed this black staining in the ceiling lumber next to a vent pipe. Is it a problem? (The PVC pipe is new.)

    Your post is not deleted, or at least my app (Connect for Android) still shows it to me. I would point out, however, that Google photos shows your real name, which you may not have intended.

      Also if these are not load bearing beams ( they have been almost cut throughto allow the pipe going through), make the gap wider and put some isolation around the pipe. But only if the pipe is the case of the water problem

    That looks like spalting. You said its a vent? It looks more like plumbing to me, seeing as the spalting is along everything that is metal, and that the PVC is new. I’ve seen it before along plumbing that has condensation form often.

    Not a plumber or anything, just someone who has done their share of home improvements over the years.
