As we lead up to 300 days since the municipal election, what is everyone’s opinion on Ken Sim and ABC Vancouver?
What have they done well? What have they done poorly? What would you like to see?
I will always be salty about how they axed the bicycle lanes on Broadway because “there’s bicycle lanes on either side”.
No Ken, those aren’t bicycle lanes. Those are shared use roads and not everyone is comfortable using them. Those that do are still at risk of being doored because it’s pretty much a single lane for most of it.
Broadway is such a nice bike corridor, too. There’s so many shops up and down Broadway that could benefit from increased traffic, while currently most of the traffic passing them are in cars stuck in traffic while street parking is completely packed.

It’s probably less wise to assume that someone is basing their vote entirely on a single grievance they express.
They have done mobility badly (killing the Stanley Park and Broadway bike lanes). I’ve seen no significant work worthy of praise regarding housing, public safety, transportation or health care. I’m hopeful for more pedestrianization, proposed for Gastown and Bute St. All in all, not tragic as I feared but still leaning to the dissatisfying side.
They have shown an incredible incompetence with funds, pandering to their base at the cost of all the other tax payers. Really unimpressed with them.
Hoping for a clean slate next election.
Thanks for opening this discussion! Does anybody know of a way to see which motions council has voted on or passed?
Edit: found this, but I’m not sure if you can drill down to individual votes: https://opendata.vancouver.ca/explore/dataset/council-voting-records/table/
It looks like it needs a better web interface tbh… The current one is terrible.
