This article is a month old, and Logitech has already added an option to disable this feature.

I was well aware of the age of the article and original post.

But I saw no harm in prompting the community to ask for suggestions to a software that is adding bloat in disguise of dumb features.

Thanks. The app is free to try for 30 days.

However, I can already see open issues that mention requiring the proprietary software from Logi to be installed in order for all the buttons and wheels to work.

Having said that, I will use it for a while before forming a concrete opinion.

I started boycotting Logitech when they started automatically downloading and installing Logitech Download Assistant through Windows update as soon as you connect a Logitech device to your computer.

That is unforgivable to me, when connecting a device, the only thing that should be downloaded and installed is the driver, nothing more, if you need the extra functionallity you should need to get it manually.

I would have no issues with it if Windows asked to download anything other than the INF driver file and respected a “No”, both M$ and Logitech are at fault here.

Dell does the same thing with some of their office keyboards. If you plug it in, you get zero-click PUP and it’s not trivial to delete.

Dell is shit for doing this, MS is shit for allowing it in the first place

Yes. This was literally the concern I raised back when MS introduced this automatic zero-click bullshit and I was told I was paranoid; Microsoft would never let that happen! Now we’re here.

Cross posted this as I just noticed the “feature” on my machine.

Any suggestions for alternative software for an MX Master 3 being used with macOS.

Buying a whole other device seems wasteful as the mouse is in flawless condition, but if you have any suggestions I can take a note of it when it is time to buy a new device.

Well, the gestures are a primary reason I use the software.

Without the software, the only functionality I get in macOS is scrolling, rendering the buttons and side scroll wheel useless.

Solaar usually works well enough. Not sure if the gestures part is supported on MacOS.

I usually avoid depending on “hardware support” software for reasons like this. Once the software is no longer supported or as seen here, introduces some dumb “feature”, it becomes annoying.

Sounds like you have a simple decision to make, sacrifice privacy for convenience, or remove the software and use the mouse like a normal fucking mouse.

It would be unfortunate if the only other option is sacrificing privacy.

Thankfully, some helpful comments have pointed out to software that are available to trial and seem to strike a balance between usability and privacy.

To access all the extra MX mouse features that go above and beyond what a basic mouse has. MacOS supports a basic 2 button + scroll wheel mouse just fine, but the MX has other features.
