this is my first time installed Arch without archinstall and it’s not even that hard

A couple years ago they approved a curated script, that’s now bundled with the iso. If you already know your install flow, this won’t really add anything to your experience. I’d still recommend the official way

Oh I thought that was an April fools joke! I’m pretty sure I saw something about it on April 1st on the homepage. Had no idea it was a real thing.

Yet, for some unknown reason some treat it as a rite of passage.

Maybe not a rite of passage, but a good learning experience if you want to know what goes into your system! I’d recommend trying it to those who want to get more out of their system and know what they’re using… Though I also wouldn’t recommend Arch to people who don’t want that.

It’s just good to know what pieces need to be in place for your system to work in case any of those pieces ever break. Normal OS installers obfuscate those pieces, so if they break you’re left in the dark. Arch makes you place them yourself, so if they break, you know how to put them back.

if you want to use it to judge someones knowledge and ability to use documentation, I‘d ask if they have installed arch, by hand, at least once. Calling using automation cheating is assuming they mean „by hand“ which probably isnt fair.
