Hey all

I’ve been playing a bit of Noita in my spare time, and i’m enjoying it a lot thus far.

I got to the icy floor and manage to survive pretty well. But at some point I feel like I’m not able to kill enemies fast enough anymore. And the wands I find or bought at this stage don’t seem to be good enough to put on some decent spells.

Should I be trying out some alternative strategies, or go to a different location? I know there is a lot to explore, but not sure where to start. I also don’t seem to find a lot of options for digging, even though this seems necessary if I want to go back up.

Thanks for your help!

Honestly, watch some of DunkOrSlam’s wand building videos and learn how to escape the holy mountain without breaking it (and then return).

Those two skills will help you build better wands for more survivability.

After that, I’d say just focus on learning the various levels and what kinds of enemies you’ll be facing (and how to avoid them).

But, I’d try to avoid full spoilers of everything you can do until you beat the tutorial (or the final boss) 😂

I’ll check out those wand building videos, thanks!

I already managed to get out of the holy mountain by using teleports. But I’m not sure what to do when breaking out by digging. The first time I did so, and angered the gods. The steve guy killed himself somehow (projectile reflected off a shield or something). But then on the next levels I have to deal with him somehow.

Is it worth it to try and kill him? Or better to avoid angering the gods in the first place?

Some people trigger him on purpose to get early gold 😃. There are definitely ways to deal with him.

Though his big brother is trickier later. With the right wand though they’re definitely manageable.

Is it possible to still use the shop and configure wands and then dodge him to get out without fighting? Or not worth the risk?

            Possible but definitely trickier.

There’s also vids out there for how to kill him with the statue…

No worries, if it happens then worst case you start to learn his patterns.

The tldr of the statue trick is to get him to follow you to the left of the HM, and you stand on the left side of the statue (facing left) with your cursor pointing straight up. When he’s above you kick and launch the statue straight up for an instant kill.

Nice, I will have to try this out. I guess it does also does not work anymore when he gets upgraded?

Is it possible to run/teleport past the upgraded version and trigger the exit to kill him, then dig back to get the perks?

The fungal caverns left of the coal pits are a good way to get very powerful wands early, but the enemies are super dangerous, be prepared to get Noita’d a lot.

You could also backtrack from the Icy caverns by going right and then up, and crossing the lava lake. That way you can farm a bit more in levels 1-2

The wands you get in 1-3 are generally fine. Try to become more comfortable with modifiers, learn how different effects interact and stack, and keep tinkering. Wands can easily become an order of magnitude more powerful with just one or two modifiers.

Have you found out about chainsaws yet?

      Thanks for the tips!

I figured out your spoiler thingy yes. Does it only apply to a single cast? or to all casts of a wand?

I’m also not sure what are good options for digging. I never seem to get the spells or wands with spells that are useful for digging. I think I got a plasma cutter once, and then promptly killed myself with it. Whoops.

It applies to the cast delay as it is cast. Double or triple casts really make a difference here, since the chainsaw negates all cast delay, including the one added by any other spells. Combined with a low recharge wand you can easily build a machine gun that fires a projectile every frame. That easily clears up to level 3, but beyond that, you’ll want something more sophisticated.

For that, Triggers are your best friend. Chainsaws are next to useless as a weapon, right? Put one (or five) behind a Spark Bolt with Trigger (and yes, you can and should trigger multicasts), your sparkbolt goes from 3 damage to 15 (or 65…). You can also add modifiers behind a trigger. Remember, modifiers affect anything that’s cast at the same time, just like the chainsaw hidden effect. So if you take a setup like

        • Spark w/ Trigger
        • Damage Plus
        • Triple Cast
        • Chainsaw x3

Suddenly every shot does 75+ damage. Swap out the Damage Plus for a Bloodlust, you’re all the way up to 140+. That will oneshot most of what you’ll encounter until level 5

All of that is doable before you enter level 3, if you’re lucky, and this is still a fairly simple example. Make good use of modifiers, many things can stack to absurd amounts. Another favorite is Piercing Shot + Trigger, because that triggers the secondary effects without destroying the original projectile. Add in homing and you’ve effectively built a very angry bee doing 140 damage every frame. Or launch a nuke, if that’s what you put in as a payload.

I wouldn’t recommend getting distracted by other areas until you’re at least somewhat consistently getting to the jungle. After that, try to defeat the alchemist (left from Collapsed Mine, past the darkness). You will die, but after you eventually do it you’ll unlock some truly amazing spells.

As for digging, a fairly safe and consistent option that is common in early areas is Luminous drill. It can break everything, but is fairly slow. Once you find Add Mana and 2/3x Scatter Spell, it becomes amazingly fast.

This helps a lot, thank you!

Is there any way to consistently get a bunch of chainsaws? Should i be looking for wands that have some inside already?

Or are there other spells that can act similar in a pinch?

Chainsaws are great, but part of the challenge of Noita is making due with what you manage to find. But yes, it might often be worth it to take or buy an otherwise garbage wand that has helpful spells

In a pinch, Reduce Recharge Time can serve a similar role when going for the machine gun, and drill or luminous drill can work well when triggered
