I’d at least want an interviewee to try to be original without defaulting to the “clever” answer they saw recommended online.
I mean, sure, dress it up a bit but the spirit of that idea is just fine to me. Something like:
Interviewer: “Where do you see yourself in five years?”
Applicant: “At that point I’ll have 5 more years experience. I’ll have explored this position in all of its depths, and after attaining mastery, I’ll have advanced. Its important to me to always be working toward a further goal. If both you and I make the best choices, I believe I’ll have a good chance to be in your position after a number of years of learning under you after you have advanced from the position you hold today into higher a higher leadership position.”
