Having the skills to grow, build, operate and repair things is wonderful and should be encouraged. But knowing what to do in an emergency and be as helpful as you can until professional assistance arrives is very important too. I remember a saying that goes something like “a peaceful people is better than a helpless people” and I feel that fits here

If you only teach people to be warriors then they only know how to do war.
You need to know how to do both. Having the skills to grow, build, operate and repair things is wonderful and should be encouraged.
