At the same time, I kind of respect their conviction to only sell in Europe where they don’t need to participate in global shipping to the same extent, and don’t need to grow unsustainably. We want something like the Fairphone? Someone here has got to make it.

That looks rather nice. My Pixel 6 should be good for a few years yet, but I’d like to think my next phone will be a Fairphone if they keep improving like this.

How is the software experience with Fairphone? Is it generally pretty stable and bug free?

Android 12 still, and that just came a few months ago.

It’s a minimal stock Android without any protection against pocket dialing or ghost touches. And updates are slow to come, although I think we are finally on the third month of consistent monthly updates. aptX is a shitshow at the best, broken at the worst, so bluetooth music listening isn’t great, which is not a good thing for a device that got rid of the 3.5mm jack.

You are better off using CalyxOS on the Fairphone, which fixes all of those problems, except it doesn’t have true Google Play services.

Yeah, loving that blue. My FairPhone 4 needs repair, and getting replacement parts is difficult; I might just wait and trade it in for the FairPhone 5. I kind of need an LCD display, and this looks like the most premium LCD phone we will get this year (i.e. not a three year old Snapdragon 695).

Huh that sucks. The repairability as an argument for sustainability is not a good one if parts are then not actually available to do repairs. Repairing it during its warranty period is only one half of the coin.

I’m hoping for a 120 Hz OLED screen. That’s my biggest reason for not getting a Fairphone 4.

I hope the fairphone 5 comes to the US or has really good support for US providers and is easier to get. The fairphone 4 is nice since it runs Ubuntu touch the best out of all devices so we can use it without android and still have a well working device.

Hopefully, they fix their camera API so that GCam works properly this time. Being stuck with the stock photo app was the only downside of version 4 imo.
