I just watched a video on youtube talking about “Everything Wrong With AirBnB”: https://youtu.be/aaodJqJ2o60
I am not that much of a traveler, but the few times I stayed in an AirBnB I had a pretty good time and none of the problems mentioned in this video. How about you?
never used it. airbnb is one of those things were the way it developed I don’t want to support it.
Absolutely understandable. But if you want to rent a house in a more urban area its sometimes the only option…
I’ve had some really negative experiences, not gonna use it again
I used Airbnb round 5 times. You do need to be luckily sometimes about the state of the house, apparment or caravan.
But in general I also never experienced any issues! In fact, I love it. Currently also in a house in Les Hermines en France, using Airbnb. I did always check reviews and validate for a super host ideally. I had always nice hosts, very friendly and humble.
Bad or maybe just weird possibly dangerous?
I rented a room for one night out of necessity. $140 for one room barely big enough to contain the bed and TV with no windows. To paint a picture it was one of four rooms that shared a common area. Never met the host, was given a code for a lockbox to obtain a key. Let’s say the code was “1234”. I open the lockbox and get the key and realize each lockbox had the same code. I figure this out because none one other guests bothered to spin the dials on their lockbox, each was still at 1234. Pretty stupid all around but whatever. The entrance to the building had a latch with a keypad on it, my key doesn’t fit so I punch in 1234. Door opens. Walk in, get to my room, same deal. Key doesn’t fit, 1234 and the door opens. I never found out what the key was for other than to let potential serial killers know how to access the bedrooms. WTF?
Yes. Got hit for a ‘$350 cleaning fee’ on a suite we left immaculately clean. We vacuumed lol.
Took almost a month of back and forth to get the shit removed, we sent them pictures of our exit and it still took weeks after that. If it was a $50 fee I probably would have paid it but $350 is NUTSO.
Yeah that is just ridiculous…
hawaii - I suspect they charged all their ‘guests’ because people track sand everywhere but we left that place cleaner lol, no fucking way I’m paying $350 for that.
I guess the 350$ were nearly as much as you payed to stay there? :D
no it was $550 per night but worked out as we had 3 other families with kiddos. Honestly I would have given them 5 stars except for the charge - we messaged them first and got nothing for weeks. It was a really nice place, and I totally get that AB&B owners have to clean up after inconsiderate guests, but we did all of our own laundry and left the place cleaner than when we arrived.
Mostly all the bullshit rules, broken things like faucets, and work that you have to do like putting linens in the washer.
So people actually tell tennants to do that… I think thats so weird… Did you at least safe the “cleaning fee” or did you have to pay that anyway?
I actually didn’t have to deal with any of that, yet. Though I only stayed at 2 AirBnBs…
Sometimes, but sometimes the cleaning fee is mandatory and just a way to hide the actual cost.
Found it more expensive and more of a headache than a hotel. Like I don’t feel like I should be expected to wash your floors, take out the garbage, etc. when I’m paying a cleaning fee.
When you just want an apartment I am absolutely with you :D
