It’s been 30,000+ days since the start of the war, I think it’s ok to have a (dark) sense of humor about it. None of us were in it, caused it, or killed anyone in it.

    Move forward.

Germany Suspends 29 Police Officers for Sharing Racist, Far-Right Material on WhatsApp

It’s not like Germany surrendered and then all the fascism went away the day after. Occupied Germany remained a deeply fucked state well into the 1970s. And the hollowing out of the East German economy, following unification, only threw gasoline on the dying embers of far-right extremism.

Catching a bunch of German Navy guys blasting the Imperial March just reminds folks of how close the apple fell to the tree.

Germany isn’t the birthplace of fascism, nor is it the only place it exists today.

        Let it go man.

I mean, Britain & France have a tunnel connecting each other now, should they still be bitter, because you know, slaughter through history? Or are my sensibilities just too soon for you?

Zoom Out, it’s a big wide world.

“Haha remember that time we tried to conquer you? Don’t worry. Our Neonazis don’t have control of the government yet” is not “dark humor” from a warship in your territory.

The only real defense would be them not being called stormtroopers in the German translations, which I suppose is possible.

Second best is “I’m just a nerd and an idiot.”

As an Englishman, I say fair play on a good, clean prank. People forget that the German sense of humour can be even dryer than the British.

Wow that’s an old one, I have seen that since probably 2005-2006? Did you have it to hand or go looking for it specifically?

I initially completely misunderstood “no deeper message” to mean “there is no message deeper than the one being sent”. Like, what message are they trying to convey??

I guess they meant, “don’t read into it”.

Didn’t a British marching band play it for the Saudi King?

Reading the headline, I was revved up, and was about to be “that guy,” but then I read the article. The first line does state that it’s actually the Imperial March 😆

BERLIN (AP) — Germany’s Navy says there was “no deeper message” in the choice to blast the famed Imperial March — Darth Vader’s theme song in the “Star Wars” films

ain’t it ironic that my immediate thought was commentary on the british government, rather than, you know, that part of german history
