I got this from a story on The Guardian, talking about a poll by Arab News Research and Studies Unit and YouGov, that states Arab Americans support Trump by a thin margin, despite overwhelmingly agreeing that hate crimes and racism will get worse if he’s elected.
I just… we’re fucked. We’re totally fucked.
I think the rationale goes like: Punish the good guys for being bad. They’ll lose, and then 4 years from now they’ll reform and treat you better. Essentially, give up on this next 4 years and hope that you’ll have an actual representative of your constituency after that.
If the choice is between genocide and genocide lite I can see people making that decision.
Has accelerationism ever worked?
If humans stopped trying something just because it’s never ever worked, we wouldn’t have to worry about republican governments getting elected.
That makes sense, but how well did that work in 2016? Pretty fucking badly, and now we’re stuck with a conservative Supreme Court for possibly the next few decades.
Change needs to start from the ground up. Once left-leaning voters can actually match conservative voters’ numbers in off-year elections, then we can talk about reforming the party.
That’s a big fucking gamble. They better pray that if the would be dictator wins, there’ll even be another chance in 4 years.
The alternative is there is never a chance, you just keep voting your color and they never have incentive to seek your vote.
OR you participate in the primaries and shape the party yourself. I don’t know why people act like we have zero agency in what the Democratic Party does.
Because we’ve seen what the party calls primaries.
Yeah, just like how the Dems swung hard to the left after losing in 2016, 2004, 2000, 1988…
Hold on, I’m being handed a note…
