I keep this one on hand for discussions with people who say “but the climate has always varied”. Rate of change is a thing.
That’s scary. I think everyone should see this one.
The hard part is a lot of climate change deniers will be creationist
Even creationists can be convinced that climate change is real and the world is a system that operates by rules. But those types aren’t usually the maga types nor do they vote Republican.
a young-earth creationist still gets to see everything after “prehistory ends, history begins”
Shame is, I don’t think charts like this will ever work. Humans live selfishly with short term thinking. A solution to this requires more coordination. It just can’t happen.
I wanna see the 2023 updated temperatures on this chart
Other than bugging Munroe (the creator), you could take a look at this graph and turn your screen 90 degrees. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instrumental_temperature_record#/media/File%3A20200324_Global_average_temperature_-_NASA-GISS_HadCrut_NOAA_Japan_BerkeleyE.svg
Damn.
I know. I was really upset at “Last North American Pokemon goes extinct.”
So the super simple version is the ice age was only let’s say 5 degrees colder on a global average so imagine aiming yourself towards 5 degrees hotter

This is a really good data viz actually
It is…
… but dont underestimate these peoples ability to ignore evidence, even when placed before them (so they dont have to find ot themselves)
Another one to give them is amtospheric CO2 over time. I recall one graph in my undergrad where it also had significant anthropological events on it like when the industrial revolution started etc.
