#NotTheOnion Microsoft will make millions of computers obsolete and will generate thousands of tonnes of eWaste on International eWaste Day.
“Windows 10 security updates end on 14 October 2025, KDE’s 29th birthday and also, ironically, International E-Waste Day [1] (you cannot make these things up!)”
Fully for it, but can we stip preaching to the choir? Let’s preach to the sinners and heathens :)
My wife has a Windows 10 laptop that doesn’t support 11. It’s the only non-Linux computer we own. She doesn’t use it much because it’s slow. I can’t convince her she’d be fine with Linux.
I know the point is to reduce waste and combat software driven planned obsolescence, but given the circumstances, is there any way for me to score an extra laptop on the cheap? In other words, come October should I look for a deluge of old Windows 10 laptops on eBay or Salvation Army or something?
Oh definitely, most people aren’t going to use Linux because it’s not from a big corporation so they think it’ll be bad.
