Federal law makes it difficult for airline unions to conduct legal strikes. Under Railway Labor Act, they need decision from federal mediators that further negotiations would be pointless, which rarely happens. The president and Congress can also get involved to delay or block strike.
I flew American a couple of weeks ago and one of the planes had a funny attendant crew. I believe they were a crew from the northeast. One of them, a 50ish lady, was going over the exit aisle instructions with the people sitting there. One of them, a guy also around 50, was trying to joke around with her in a good-natured manner as far as I could tell in the brief part of the interaction I saw as I shuffled by to my seat. At first she seemed to go along with it but then suddenly she said “If you would just shut up I can explain this to you.” I was like damn, this lady is living the customer service dream.
