And people shit themselves over Keurig cups. Fuck me. A single coke bottle or fast-food drink contains far more plastic.
“bUt SinGlE uSe covfefe!”
Yeah, so are pop bottles and I pack them out of the woods and waterways almost everyday. Never found a Keurig cup. No other environmental concern goes to show how fucking stupid people are.
BTW: Plastic straws? Gather one or several on every trip, woods or water. “But those are a fake problem meant to put pollution onus on the user!” Well, users chunk 'em everywhere; bottle caps as well.
Pro tip: Keurig cups are ideal for seedlings. Perfect size, already have holes in the bottom. Gather and dry some moss, boom, seedlings. When they grow out a bit, use the plastic McDonald’s cups. I cannot imagine why people buy plastic pots. Morons.
Pro tip 2: Keep the thick plastic bottles you use or find. Perfect frozen water for a cooler pack or a trip. Old gf used to freeze a milk jug for a 2-3 day kayaking trip.
Why are you singling out K Cups? All those products you mentioned are made of plastic, and while I do find the straw thing is ridiculous compared to the fish nets abandoned in the ocean every day, I still think all single use plastics are kind of bad.
Because people make K-cups out to be some sort of hellish invention. Go post on /c/asklemmy, “What are your thoughts on K-cups?”, watch the vitriol roll in. The stupid things have been the talk of the world for a decade+.
To add to the stupid: Reusable Keurig cups have been on the market since forever; we have 6. Only reason I score any for seedlings is from my wife’s office. “Hey, can you dig some more out the break-room trash?”
And of course single-use plastics are bad, we agree, but the social media hate for K-cups is flat out stupid. Any store-bought drink is a waste of plastic or glass, but god forbid K-cups. And again, I pack out styofoam, glass and other single-use plastics, never seen a K-cup. Not one. Non-issue compared to anything else, even straws or bottle caps.
And yes, fishing nets are a scourge from hell. I’ll get really mad talking about that particular bullshit.
I think k cups get the hate they do because there are plenty of coffee making machines that don’t produce so much waste. The alternatives are practical and plentiful.
Why would someone bring a K Cup out into nature? Soda and the other plastics you mentioned don’t require a huge machine to use.
I hate Keurig simply because their machines are shit. I bought a $200 model a few years ago and it overheated itself during descaling. I got a free replacement but that one’s buttons were shot on day one. The reusable K Cup was a pain to use, and I hated buying a huge box of plastic pods to satisfy my caffeine habit.
These days I drink pour over coffee with an electric kettle—the coffee beans come in a huge bag so I don’t need to throw out 2+ K Cups everyday.
Yeah, so are pop bottles and I pack them out of the woods and waterways almost everyday. Never found a Keurig cup.
LOL, what a ludicrous argument.
“Nobody’s schlepping their electric coffee appliance and a fucking generator with them to use in the middle of the goddamn woods, so the pointless plastic pods the thing uses must be A-OK!”
I’m actually more concerned about all the plastic they manufacture per year.
But the micro plastics can be the fossil fuels for future civilizations!
That doesn’t sound right, but I don’t know enough about micro plastics to dispute it
It’s OK because when you burn plastic the smoke goes up to the sky and becomes stars.
Yeah, who wants micro plastics in their dental cocaine
It’s also used in ophthalmology.
It’s also used nasally, sometimes.
