Yeah, it’s just plant based. Some of them are awful, other ones are shockingly good. Texture is usually pretty much the same. Basically like lactose free cheese now a days. 5 years ago it was plastic but now you can’t tell the difference.

      Example pizza with vegan cheese:

      (Source: My dinner on Friday.)

This one is 50% Daiya smoked Gouda block and 50% store brand veg Mozzarella.

It’s not Gouda, if it’s not from the town of Gouda. It’s just sparkling fake cheese.

          XD

Not entirely false. I’d honestly like to see a few more vegan Goudas seasoned properly with caraway seeds! (Not that most non-vegan cheeses get this right either…)

Flavour wise, vegan cheese is pretty good, but there’s definitely still room for improvement.

Ofc, a more “authentic” tasting vegan Gouda cheese probably wouldn’t even belong on pizza in the first place!

I made the mistake of ordering a pizza with vegan cheese a few years ago. It smelled and tasted rancid, in an overbearingly chemical way. I didn’t finish it.

In terms of ethical veganism, what happened to the genetically engineered yeasts that produced cow casein, and looked like a promising way of making animal-free dairy products?
