“Paul defended his work, arguing that true crime is “entertainment masquerading as news” and that his content was less exploitative than traditional true crime media. “There’s really no difference between us except that [I am] not using real people and their suffering as my vehicle.””

Bro. Honestly, that’s a pretty good argument.

He is somewhat right about the ethics of true crime content, but that has nothing to do with him reporting lies as fact.

The better play would’ve been to be upfront with everything being fictional, then go all in - make stories about prisoners using wormholes to smuggle in contraband, or a vampire hunter accidentally killing an innocent human.

If Paul did something like that, he could have kept the channel and made his argument on there to a much wider audience. But maybe this idea would be too much effort for someone who makes AI slop…

He is though, indirectly. Lessening the visibility of actual victims. Hurting their creditability, their voices and even potential streams of revenue.

Yeah, I think the only issue would be trying to pass it off as real cases. Otherwise it’s really not any different than shit like CSI.

There’s really no difference between us

There is an important difference between reality and make believe.

Obviously there are issues here with deception, integrity, laziness, and ethics in entertainment. But it is funny to think of complaints about this being partially “I’m upset this murder didn’t actually happen.”

I’ve heard a few of the stories, and they’re absolutely hilarious.

My favourite is the one where a rich granny married a gay teenager, got angry because he couldn’t perform, so his mom killed him.
