First like 5 episodes they already have sexism, and ableism, as well as referencing Elon musk as well as capturing a creature and using it for there own agenda, like wtf is this? Does it ever become less shitty or should I just skip it?

I also didn’t grow up in the 80’s. I feel like part of the appeal is childhood memories. Watching later for the first time doesn’t have the same effect.

I think an attachment to the characters, nostalgic or otherwise, is necessary to enjoy all of TNG. That way even in bad episodes, it’s character you enjoy just doing silly things. Without that attachment A LOT of TNG can be hard to get through.

I also think that has a lot to do with it. TOS was what I watched when I was young, (many years after it came out!) and I know nostalgia clouds my opinion of it. I didn’t try watching TNG and DS9 until I was a young adult, and TNG was sometimes a struggle. Fortunately I also had DS9, which hooked me right away!
