Blobun is an indie puzzle game currently making waves on social media thanks to a joke setting that eliminates its lesbian content. The problem? Blobun protagonist Stephanie is gay, so flipping the so-called “lesbian toggle” in the options menu removes her from the game and renders it totally unplayable.

I don’t even really play PC games and I’m gonna buy this. I love these devs and I love the message.

Steam has a big problem when it comes to homophobia (and Transphobia) which Valve refuse to moderate, so no I don’t agree whatsoever. Developers can and should make their games and communities as unfriendly to homophobic and transphobic people as possible.

Just to add to this, I’ve read way too many posts on steam about the “globohomo agenda” (a hate term). There’s groups on steam that try to target “woke” games and this is usually either some sort of lgbt representation or women characters that make the games woke.

Yeah it’s really bad, hateful anti-LGBT and racist rhetoric is a big problem on Steam. It is a big problem everywhere online, but Valve has done considerably less to moderate it than anyone else has.

I don’t think it’s okay to call someone out for finding “gay haters everywhere” when it comes to a community that can be as toxic as gamers. This reminds me of all the toxic Steam forum posts about Webfishing not having a straight tag. It’s not like you have to invent these people, even if this particular thread doesn’t (yet) have them.

Plural? Headmates? Are these terms based on the idea that there are multiple personalities with names?

No. Multiple personalities are not what we are talking about. That term is kind of outdated and based on an era where plurality wasn’t as understood as it is now. In medical science one specific form of plurality that replaced MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder) is DID (Dissasociative Identity Disorder). However, this is not the only kind of plurality that exists, and yes there are some who are closer to having ‘multiple personalities’. However, there are some minds which have multiple people living in them, and no one person is more ‘real’ or the ‘main’ person in some, what is commonly referred to as ‘systems’.

If you want to do more reading about here is a beginner’s guide to plurality: https://morethanone.info/

If you’d like to know more afterwards we will happily answer more good faith questions and provide more links.

That was an interesting read. I have no experience of this myself, so it is rather hard to relate to.

The concept of “nonhuman members” is surely the hardest to share without getting laughed out of the room, especially as it’s not clear what it represents.

Thanks for clarifying the intended definition of those terms.

For answers about nonhuman members, we suggest looking to and about the OtherKin, AlterHuman/AlterBeing and TransSpecies communities as this isn’t unique to just plural folks, singlets can be and often are nonhuman too.

Being nonhuman has a long history beyond such concepts (OtherKin etc) existing, for example TransHumanism used to be about this in part before it got hijacked by TechBros etc, and many cultures likely had and have some kind of acceptance for it in their spiritual and cultural practices and beliefs, as well as ‘humans’ being raised by nonhumans and thus socially not being human at least. Its vagueness is intentional as we can literally be anything. None of us for instance are human and we know many who are the same, singlet or plural.

Thank you for sharing that one. I had never heard of plurality before outside Hollywood, learnt something new today. So fascinating!
