Update from this post yesterday: https://sh.itjust.works/post/34622756

Trumper has since scrubbed her Facebook page of all things political, including pictures of her husband in a MAGA hat. She is now claiming to never have made political posts.

Transcript:

I’m posting this not to start a debate over politics but just for a generalized statement so please do not come at me or try to start a debate. I do not nor have I ever talked politics for the sheer reason that everyone has an opinion and is absolutely entitled to that opinion; that’s why we vote and I am not about to go at it with someone because our beliefs arent the same. I have recently had too many people flooding my text messages or DMs forcing their opinion. I even had one friend end our friendship because I politely stated I do not talk politics and I was not going that rabbit hole with her.

The fact of the matter is like it or not the president is who it is. I have worked for the federal government for 15 years and it is a scary thing right now. [Redacted] also military and we don’t know what our jobs will look like in the future. We’re rolling with things as they come out and will adjust as needed but a lot of things I receive or read from a lot of posts have somewhat taken me by surprise and do not wish to be apart of it.

Nobody can keep themselves out of politics. It just doesn’t work that way, because politics works its way into your life wherever you go. You can choose not talk about it, which is typically an endorsement of the status quo, and that in itself is a clear political message that you’re sending to people around you.

“I made an incredibly stupid political mistake that people warned me repeatedly not to make and it backfired and hurt me personally so now I’m going to pretend I’ve never been into politics to try to save face.”

Fucking loser. I hope they suffer.

I think “Everyone is entitled to their opinion” is not the rock solid axiom people think it is. Sure, you can like vanilla or chocolate ice cream. That’s opinion, and not really harming anyone.

“I don’t think the queers should be allowed to live” is technically an opinion, but it’s a vile one, and when you act on it you’re hurting people. Refusing vaccination is similar- it leads to people needlessly dying. Don’t sweep these into the same category as ice cream flavors.

What’s so great is that they don’t get to blame Biden or Democrats in any way for this. There is no wiggle room here, and they have to contend with that and confront their cognitive dissonance.

Option 1: Trumpsk unfairly fired you in spite of you being a good and efficient worker. Dear Leader(s) is/are at fault and fallible.

Option 2: Trumpsk fairly fired you because you are a poor and inefficient worker. You are at fault and deserve what came to you.

That’s part of the problem, many who have fallen into this pattern have been groomed to think Option 2 from the time they were born. This is unironically what they earnestly believe. But I’m pretty sure the insidious marriage of religion, wealth, and politics was the plan ever since the L they took during Watergate.

    Thank you for the update.

This person is certainly entitled to their opinion, but not repercussions from their opinion. This is a classic mistake from “Free speech absolutists”. You’re welcome to say whatever you want, as long as you’re prepared to deal with the consequences.

These are sadly, the kind of people who will never learn because they lack the capacity for self-reflection, and more importantly, self-change. Knowing you need to change isn’t half as hard as actually putting in the effort to change.

      “This is not political”

(Not a response to you lol)

My friend in Talos, everything is political. Saying “X is not political” says that you’re privileged enough to not see how X is political.

I feel like people who say things “aren’t political” need to go back to like an 11th grade Literature course. These people probably would read Dracula and be like “it’s just a story about a guy that bites people THAT’S ALL”. Or say animal farm is just about some talking animals.

Really, the failure of public education is having large impacts everywhere. People seem to be bad at analysis. Like when a story has a married straight couple and that’s not “political” to this sort of person, but a married queer couple is super “political”.

Rather than say that this is a failure of public education, I think it might be more instructed to think of it as the conservative movement succeeding. In many communities, it’s considered rude to bring up things that will upset people, and that typically includes political topics. You can’t point out that the police chief is running a scam, for example, because that would embarrass the mayor who hired the police chief, and that would make you rude for embarrassing them… That kind of thought, the blind pro establishment view, is a strong part of culture in many areas of the country.

(And I’m using the word conservative here to refer to the people currently in power keeping power, not specifically to refer to the Republican party.)

Conservatives pull that out whenever they are about to go against Trump. They think their opinion will have more weight with other conservatives if they sound less political.

I’m thinking that maybe it’s because, having spent years with a “if you’re not with us then you must be with them” bubble, really believing it and actively using that “argument” against others, they suddenly find themselves is disagreement with the old us yet not because they agree with them.

That being so, their “I’m not political” is their way of coping with it.

Of course, as many are pointing out, everything is political, but given that these people for years believed a hyper-tribalist and ultra-simplified “it’s either us or them” view of everything the idea that everything is politics might be a bit too far ahead for them who have just discovered the hard way that one can have beliefs about how things should be which are neither us nor them.

This makes a lot of sense actually. The tribalism, the Us-vs-Them mentality, the first past the post 2 party system that enables that.

they suddenly find themselves in disagreement with the old us yet not because they agree with them.

A situation like that simply bursts the whole concept.

That said, this person still doesn’t understand that more social politics do not mean “socialism”, just that they might have kept their job and/or no need to be scared about their economic future.

I’ll never understand the logic of these people. Works for the government but supports the political party that wants a small government. Loses their job and is suddenly perplexed why.

Like someone who keeps stabbing their eye with a fork wonders why they’ve gone blind.

I’ll never understand the logic hatred

You’re trying to project a reasonable thought process onto people driven by cruelty. You don’t understand it because it doesn’t exist: change your lens and suddenly it’ll start making sense.

Votes for Hitler. Everyone is entitled to vote it is what it is. Noone is entitled to criticise anyone for voting for Hitler, I am completely innocent no matter what Hitler does. You have to still sympathise with me because the Hitler I knew about and still voted for hurt me. /s
