Heliboard is easily the best fully open source keyboard.
The problem is how aggressive it is with its Personal Dictionary use; it auto-applies shorthand instead of requiring you to tap in the autocorrect pane. I’ve sorta gotten used to it, but it’s quite a departure from every other keyboard I’ve ever used.
Also it has some quite annoying behaviors with copy paste :
- not always pasting the latest copied text
- deleting whole pasted text when deleting last character after pasting
I don’t think I experience the first bullet, but yeah, the full clipboard deletion issue I deal with as well. Some others and I circumvent it by typing a space or other character and then deleting it.
You know what? Maybe we should try Futo after all 🤣
Lol this has been on FUTO forever. It has better voice typing, too, and its all on-device.
Let me know when they fix the Swype accuracy (currently it’s unusable)
I was about to say the only thing missing from futo keyboard is multilingual typing, but then I checked to be sure, ans turns out they already added that!
Yep, I regularly switch between three languages, and one is a complex format. No complaints whatsoever.
Heliboard is also an excellent option. The best multilingual keyboard IMO is the highly underrated AnySoftKeyboard. It is built from the ground up, so it is very different from the AOSP Keyboards and can be a little bit of an adjustment. Development also seems dormant.
(FUTO, Heli, Simple, Fossify, GBoard, etc are all built on AOSP. I think Florisboard is also built from the ground up, although it’s not yet feature complete)
I love the Futo Keyboard project, even paid for it. But their swipe typing support is absolutely hot garbage right now.
Others have said this too, although I’ve never had any issues with it. I mostly use the voice input, regular typing, and predictive text, so maybe I just don’t use swipe enough to notice.
Just needs florisboard to have swipe typing and word suggestions/autocorrect back. Then I can ditch Gboard
Also I need to close a bank account because its bank app doesn’t even allow a third party keyboard. Yes, it’s bloody asinine, and there are plenty of people that have the bank 1 star reviews and they still double down on “It’S fOr SeCuRiTy AnD yOuR oWn GoOd”
Extremely frustrating
Why not heliboard? That has both those things
Somehow I like how florisboard looks and the settings is a bit to my liking
