This may be an unpopular opinion but we should consider moving the Canada / US border 250km north along the Detroit river. Moving the border north 250km would reduce the amount of cross border trips for the automotive industry negating a lot of the tariff issues. And I don’t think the geniuses ruling the US would realize that moving the border north along this stretch would result in Canada gaining over 9000km² of land.
The reason this may be unpopular is because Canada would inherit the Detroit Red Wings.
Now is not the time to be discussing moving the border, a topic which was started by trump in the context of threats to our sovereignty. I don’t find this funny and see it in poor taste.
I hear you on the sensitivity of border discussions, but think of Charlie Chaplin’s “The Great Dictator”—a film that used humour and satire to expose the absurdity of dictators. I don’t think the plurality of people agree with your interpretation based on votes (I did not downvote). Perhaps worth examining whether your intent is being understood.
I assume a lot of those down votes are from folks who never clicked the post and didn’t realize that Detroit is north of the Detroit river. Maybe I need to work on my delivery, my wife does give me a lot of eye rolls. I still think we need to mock Trump and friends to stop their BS from becoming normalized

Trump is definitely stupid enough to do it without understanding anything. The only question is whether someone with an actual brain can get to him before he tweets about it. Looked up this area on a map… are you talking about absorbing Detroit into Canada? As in, expanding our borders into America and taking over Eastern Michigan?
Or are you talking about pulling our border back up the Ontario panhandle, towards London and Mississauga?
I’m suggesting moving the border due north along the Detroit river. This would result in over 9000 square kilometres of land being ceded to Canada (including most of Detroit and many of the automotive factories). The beauty of this proposal is that it would have support from loads of MAGA folks because they’re likely geographically illiterate.
Edit: to be crystal clear, I’m not suggesting ceding any Canadian territory.
What confuses me is that the Detroit river, and the border with it, runs almost completely north to south. So saying you want to move that border westward to absorb Detroit would make a hell of a lot more sense.
