I don’t understand. This is America. Don’t they have guns?
I think pit bulls are immune to bullets??
Nobody test do not hurt the puppies it’s not their fault. Just maybe phase em out thanks.
People need to stop breeding them and muzzle the ones they have when they go out for a walk.
Actually I agree with you to an extent. I usually think that dogs are just doing dog stuff and they should not be held responsible just for being what they are.
What I was referring to, was that the answer most Americans seem to come to with problems involves shooting something. So I’m surprised this was not THEIR answer whether it was to shoot the dogs or to shoot the owner. That just seems like America these days.
That said, I actually read the article and the prospect of not being able to leave the house without being set upon by these powerful animals…well let’s just say I wouldn’t blame the neighbors for protecting themselves in this case. I mean if the neighbor isn’t going to be held responsible and animal control isn’t going to handle it, I’m kind of at a loss myself for what I would do. Maybe some bear spray?
It’s fucking wild how many people hate dogs online, I never encounter these insane attitudes in person, but online everyone’s out for dog blood for some reason.
Also, without looking, let me guess, Carmel or another wealthy area?
Pitbulls were artificially selected for dogfighting. They’re not made for families.

That’s you’re prerogative. May you be happy and well.

ragebait community
So this is like your personal community for canine pseudoscience and eugenics?
Dog bite injuries remain a common form of pediatric trauma. This single-institution study of 1616 consecutive dog bite injuries over 4 years revealed a much higher prevalence of dog bites as compared with other similar centers. Though inpatient admission was rare (9.8%), 58% of all patients required laceration repair, primarily in the emergency department. Infants were more than 4 times as likely to be bitten by the family dog and more than 6 times as likely to be bitten in the head/neck region. Children ≤5 years old were 62% more likely to require repair; and 5.5% of all patients required an operation. Pit bull bites were implicated in half of all surgeries performed and over 2.5 times as likely to bite in multiple anatomic locations as compared to other breeds. The relatively high regional prevalence and younger age of injured patients as compared with other centers is a topic of further study but should draw attention to interventions that can minimize child risk.
Don’t ban the dogs. Ban irresponsible owners.
The research consistently shows that pit bulls have a higher rate of attacks.
That’s probably because they have a higher rate of irresponsible owners. I live in a neighborhood full of them. The worst thing that ever happened that I’ve personally witnessed was someone getting knocked down by a super happy and friendly one that jumped up and wanted to play, despite his abusive owners. Interestingly, a well-loved and very spoiled golden retriever female jumped out of her owner’s vehicle to attack a very small dog.
The other day I was walking and the irresponsible owner of two male pits had their two unleashed, unpinned pits outside and unattended. The boisterous young male came bounding up and I simply said, “absolutely not!” firmly and he went away until I turned my back, then tried to follow me. A loud “no!” and foot stamp sent him back to his yard.
Honestly, they’re just dogs. I imagine some can’t be properly socialized, but most probably can.
People want to own all sorts of dangerous animals. Imagine my neighbor having a pet leopard and the cat being the cuddlyist thing ever and so cute. And even cuter for having someone dress her up in cute cat outfits. Sure, whatever, it is still something that could eat one of my kids and has the innate instinct to do exactly that, even if that instinct is currently dormant.
Pit bulls were designed to attack without regard to anything else. Once that instinct is triggered, their physical design turn them into killing machines. Pit bulls do not belong in homes. They belong in zoos.
People have been breeding them as companions and farm/hunting dogs for over a century. It’s not the dogs’ fault humans are bloodthirsty, and zoos aren’t the place for any animal. Nor are the dogs big cats, but guess what? Domesticated cats evolved from people who had relationships with big cats.
Maybe we should stop breeding them. Maybe we should find humane ways to end the species.
Farmers rely on these dogs. I’m not adverse to the idea but that’s a lot more work and requires a lot more involvement from society. We can’t even keep people from owning alligators, venomous reptiles, spiders etc. writing letters and attending city council is something most people aren’t willing to do once, let alone consistently, but feel free to do your part.
This breed has no special use for farmers. None. They don’t run cattle, they attack cattle (stupidly). They are a pest.
We can’t even keep people from owning alligators
Actually, we do. There’s a lengthy permit process in most states that makes it very difficult, very expensive, and requires a high degree of safegards. That’s one reason why so few people own alligators.

How exactly do you “ban owners?”
Disingenuous.
Ban irresponsible owners.
Making *the connection from there to establishing consequences, such as surrendering the pet, lawsuits etc, not sure what to tell you. Attend city/town council meetings. Letters to editors.
What body is going to determine how responsible an owner is BEFORE a child or other innocent bystander gets mauled or killed?
You want them banned, that’s something you can research and address. I do not.
You said “Ban irresponsible owners” but have been unable to say how you would
-
Determine they are “irresponsible” prior to harm occuring
-
Ban owners
What was the point of saying it in the first place?
This is not my issue priority. I’ve made it clear.
