I have been thinking about language more and more recently and how we use it and want to read some theory on it
I saved this to read the replies and am sad there aren’t any.
On the other hand, it reminded me that I bought but never read Because Internet: Understanding the New Rules of Language by Gretchen McCulloch, so that’s nice.
Right? I just saw this thread and was curious to see what might come up.
I heard about that one on her podcast. Listening to more episodes or just reading the show notes would probably be a good way to find books. I know I heard them mention a book about conlangs in an early episode. And just recently she interviewed another guy with a book similar to Because Internet, called Algospeak.
One that I’ve heard good things about is The Language Instinct.
There’s a Very Short Introductions: Linguistics book. The VSIs are usually a good start, and typically have a ‘further reading’ section to get more book ideas.
