The Hook is the one that discards 2 random cards per hand. It’s basically insta-lose for me. What do you do when faced with it?
Play with your heart, not your brain. Usually I’ll play large hands (flush, straight) so whatever is left in my hand can be ignored.
Although I say this like i don’t occasionally go, “Aha and next hand I’ll play that stone card- ah, whoops there it goes…”
Yeah my go-to hands are straights and full houses. Hook makes it tough to play more than one of them.
I was finally able to beat it by just having an overwhelming amount of cards in my hand. Hopefully the game stops throwing it at me every run now that I’ve beaten it.
- Pure outscaling (i.e knock him out in one hand)
- Strategic use of hands as discarded (may backfire)
- Playing smaller card hands - high card-builds can work quite well
- Having manipulated the deck well enough that playing your target hands is more likely (Hanged Man and Death are arguably the best tarot cards, even though I love Temperance and Hermit)
I don’t have a lot of trouble with it. My strategy is usually full house or two pair without any focus on card in hand stuff like steel cards. I also lean pretty hard on face card strategy most of the time. All of that seems pretty immune to the hook
I honestly think two pair is one of the best strategies in this game. The first several times I won was using two pair and it took me forever to find anything as good
Maybe it’s just playstyle, or my inability to plan ahead, but this guy has never bothered me. I just play the best out of what I have, and then do the same with whatever he leaves me. Do you tend to rely heavily on keep in hand cards?
